2022 - After Dark
I'm interested in the edges of perception, where objects transform or disappear in the inky blackness of the night. Where the mind starts to play tricks on you, and the imagination takes over. Where the line between reality and the fanciful is blurred.
The objects depicted in After Dark are solid and real, yet they evoke a fleeting moment in time.
They refer back to the height of the pandemic when the streets were empty. When loneliness pervaded the world. Recollecting empty gathering places, and the loneliness that remains after everyone leaves.
But they have a beauty; these humble objects; and a sense of hope - imagined or real. Because change always comes.
After dark, comes the light.
The dark artwork is juxtaposed with a fluoro perspex frame that surrounds the silver phosphorescence within and promises hope of better days.
All artworks are also available in a simple Perspex frame without the fluoro edge upon request.
